From the Flying Heritage Collection free fly day this past Saturday in Everett WA.

Heavy crop... several hundred meters distant across runway. I think this may be John Penney in the cockpit.

Lifting off.... I'm not sure what the blob is under the right side wing. Maybe a big bug closer to camera or maybe a bird strike as the aircraft terminated it's routine and landed after a single pass due mechanical issue.

Premature landing...

Nice work. You don't see too many of these at the shows.

some nice shots there... i forgot about that entirely, or i'd have been there myself! drat! you know, you can get a lot closer if you get up on the other side of the field, where the folks are standing behind the fence... the planes taxi by within 75 yards or so... that's where i go when i get up there for their free fly days. i've gotten some pretty good shots there.

the blob looks more like a dust bunny than anything else, but i love that second shot. the angle, the sky... could've been taken on its way up to meet the Jerries! pity the Spit had to land after a single pass.

Thanks squirl. I know you either from OLP (Online Photographers) or DPReview.... maybe both. In fact, I think it was one of your low level ME109 shots that motivated me to make the 2 hour drive to check out FHC. I've shot from the FHC side as well and normally do prefer that side for the static display shots as well as that on sunny days I think more of the aircraft facing the crowd catches the light. Also, can't say enough about the volunteers there - great people and I'm getting to know more of them each visit. But... Laughing.gif... I was late getting down. Big line-up at the border so went direct to the west side of the field.

As to the blob, I'm told the plane suffered a leak in the prop governor which forced it to land.

yeah, i'm on a number of forums... OLP, Steve's, NWPhotos, Photography Corner, to name a few. i haven't made it up to FHC since back in June, when i got some shots of the P-40 and the Zero. gotta remember to get up there again. i wanna get some more shots of the FW190 and Bf109, and defiinitely wanna get up there for the IL2's first flight. wouldn't mind catching the Skyraider and Tigercat either...

Thanks! Here's a couple from later in the summer when it flew with a Spitfire Mk. IXe and a Hawker Hurricane Mk.XXIIA.
