LOVE the lighting on these....really like the contrast structure on #2.
It takes a little out-of-the-box thinking to get new/different looks on floral shots.
Nice!

Thank you For the lighting I set one of those tiny reading lights behind and then in front of the flowers and turned off the lights.

Agreed! Quite right. Out of the box thinking and a lovely look and appeal in each. But I also think
theres more work to do. Not quite there I'm thinking. Thought that the first time I got to see these but refrained from saying. Didn't know what to say at the time I suppose.
For me, floral shots are notoriously tough tickets to get. But I love to try anyway.
Maybe I'll get lucky Of the things I run into frequently is that there isn't a flower or something
where I would like one to be. Or a crop won't balance out from an original frame that wasn't working
just so. Too much negative space. Then focus issues can it. Bested again. Nuts!!!
Sometimes a settlement is reached. errrr. Sweet compromise? Yes and no. Depends. Its case by case.
CC ... IMHO
For me, In image 1 the OOF dark flower upper left is enough for me to put the image aside cause there isn't a thing I could do about it unless I were to crop the image further in a bid to remove most of the that flower. Surprisingly that kinda works. hmmm ... Part of the value in saving 1 is the varied lighting values on all the flowers under it and the details kept across the critical depth of focus plane.
My eyes want to stay in the game despite that OOF flower. Crop or reshoot? Both? I find a tightened crop works in its way and points nicely to the main attractions. Has balance. All 4 corners look good. OOF flower less an issue. It would be a vertical crop.
Image 2 just needs a little crop I think and the color cast mentioned. But to be honest it doesn't show a color cast I don't disagree with. I like how the crop looks and I think a little dodging upper left flower to bring that one out a bit. Doesn't have to have it works well as is too. Love your processing. Very brisk. Things are really accentuated with contrast pop. Lovely smooth in the blur. Sharp where it needs to be. Very sweet.
Nice captures and work Mary K. Really shows how a little can do a lot

Is that about enough or what hope you don't mind.
I thank you for all the insight and time you gave to these two photos. Never thought of cropping the 1st photo more because to be honest .. I didn't see that dark flower to the left in the photo when I was working on it Don't know why either, but stuff like that usually grabs my eye and distracts me. Must of been thinking of something else, but probably was concentrating so much on the lighter flower.
As for #2 -- I worked forever on a crop for that photo and was never please with the result. The color cast in it .. doesn't bother me. Blues are suppose to be a cold color, but to me I find them warm and fuzzy. I'm strange But as I look at it I can see it's a distraction.
I'll be reworking these soon .. thanks again for taking the time to let me know all your thoughts on them. I really do appreciate it

I like the look and feel of the first one. Soft warm kinda cozy feeling. The second is too bright, and looks to be blue white.
Sam
That first shot is really nice!
My nit is with the front, dark flower that stongly pulls my eye to it.
The 2nd one does have a blue cast to it. I'll work on that along with the being to bright.
Glad to hear your found the 1st one cozy feeling. That's what I was trying to do

I think your meaning the dark flower on the left -- That one tends to pull my eye. I'll see what I can do.

Oh you and Randy ... your challenging my editing skills I've not reworked this one yet, but I will. I agree .. that one flower is distracting.
