the sidewalk slopes down to the right, so the "horizon" that should be level
is the brickwork and cement wall.

The entire building is built on a hill and although you are right, it looks very strange. I'll re-post shortly
I am not bothered by the first one the vertical lines on the retaining wall are straight and not in the second. I like the feel of the image,it has nice lighting and body language,he seems to be deep in thought about something that recently happened ,the empty space behind him show him leaving something as opposed to going somewhere.
