Long Day's Hunt

Sometimes, sunsets just don't develop the way you'd like. While I was waiting for one that proved more subtle than I'd hoped, this lone hunter returned to the public boat launch. I imagined that he'd started his long day before the sunrise, only to return empty-handed...

    Thanks!

This shot was made in mid-to-late September and if I recall correctly, it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 60°F/15°C. Quite pleasant.

You're right that as we approach the winter solstice, we get much less daylight than most other folks in the northern hemisphere. Today, the sun will rise in just a few minutes, at 9:12 AM. It will set about 7 hours later at 4:14 PM. On the solstice, we'll only have about 4½ hours of honest-to-goodness daylight.

The flip side to that is, on the summer solstice, we'll have about 19½ hours of daytime and "night" won't get much darker than twilight before the sun comes up again.

Bear in mind that these times are for the Anchorage area. Things change drastically toward the North Slope.
