Lightning Triggers

Any recommendations? Experience?

Seems like long exposures on the D800 can get horribly noisy. Yet at 4000 ISO and a quick shutter, they look good.

ok what you're looking for are shutter releases not flash triggers, Right???

Here are some inexpensive ones to consider http://tinyurl.com/8wmbhxf

I use very simple 16 channel triggers that I bought over 5 yrs ago for under $25 ...
When searching ebay I did not see any exactly like mine but the one in the above
link from Adorama is very close...brand on mine is yongNou (sp?) ...

I do not like wired triggers ....

If you were actually meaning flash triggers this is similar to what I use also......

No for catching lightning strikes. But those are some cheap alternatives for remote shutter releases. Thanks

I think these http://www.lightningtrigger.com/ have been discussed in the past. I don't know anything about them specifically though.

    Any recommendations? Experience?

No experience with it but the TriggerTrap seems awfully versatile for the money:

Lightning, try long exposure with ISO 200 F16 5 sec, adjust From there. if you have a safe spot, turn the internal interval timer on, i believe the D800 has one, someone can confirm...

    good luck

    Haha!!

Thanks for the link Ziggy, that may be the one I want!!

This shot was cool, but the 20 sec exposure at 400 ISO made it really noisy when we printed it.

Based on my experience...a lightning trigger is useful during the day but I dont use it at night/dusk on my D800. I usually set a 10-20 sec exposure at f2.8 then vary the ISO to adjust the brightness. The picture attached is f2.8 for 10 sec at ISO 200. Sometimes I get as high as 1000 when shooting lightning but very rarely...it tends to blow out the image. The lightning trigger rarely gets the shutter open in time to catch the initial bolt so a long duration shutter allows you to catch subsequent flashes. Because of this, I usually forego the trigger at night and just use a wireless trigger to remotely continue taking shot after shot.

I have a Stepping Stone Lightning Trigger and it is fantastic. If anything, it can be too sensitive. Daytime, nighttime - it gets the job done and has no problem getting the shutter open in time. My problem is that I am never in the right place for a good composition with lightning.
