I was strolling our downtown river walk and decided to try to use some shadows as subjects. Feedback welcome and appreciated.

Love shadows and silhouettes. I am always amazed how many times I fail to give them regard and miss opportunities. If I see my own shadow is about the only reminder I could be looking for them and I will compose a shot for that if there is one to be had such as you have with yourself in the picture. Both shots here are thoughtful compositions. Nice elements and vanishing point in image 1. Leading lines & vertical downspouts great. Textures. I also like how the railing shadow comes up from the boardwalk as if emanating from them. Nice clean shot with attention to all the right details best I can tell. Sweet. :D I found myself wondering for image 2 if the lower right all white brick was breaking the balance for all the components in it. Hmmm, for me I suspect it does as I see it hard for the white brick to balance out with the flower basket. Its as if a chair under the window might do the trick. And I love that window by the way and what is in it to be seen. Fine dinning I take it. Lots of character. Flower baskets on both sides? More interested in the window details than the whole shot. But that is just me. In the end I think shot 2 is a nice working image and a fun keeper but I think you will come across other opportunities that will best the shot. I am a succor for nice flower baskets and such. Still haven't found just the right ones yet. Balance missing or lacks interesting most every time I find a maybe. I still take the shot or shots even so and study em latter in edit. Might be a crop in it. Anyways, that about enough out of me and my 2 cents worth :D

Wow, thank you Michael. I think that is some of the most detailed feedback I have received here. I am very happy to hear that #1 has grabbed someone else's attention the same way it grabbed mine. For #2 I see everything you are saying about the negative space at the bottom right. I was hoping the window would pull some attention away from that and distract the eye. I think I am going to go back and try the shot again to see if I can get at least a shadow of a chair under the window.
