I like Rust

I'm typically kind of shy about posting but the other day while looking around the Dgrin site I saw some of you like Rust. I like rust too and thought this would be a time and a place to share. Plus let me just say how much I appreciate this site. Everyone is helpful and it's been a great place for help with my smugmug site, great ideas for photos and always excellent feed back. Thanks.

I was at the Ft. Flagler WWI Gun Embankments near Pt. Townsend, Washington. Ft. Flagler was one of the triangle points in what was commonly referred to as "the triangle of horror". Ft. Worden, Ft. Casey and Ft. Flagler together made up the triangle to protect the inland waters into the Puget Sound. Lots of good rust everywhere and these are a couple of my favorites. Thanks for looking.

I tried to upload two images, both .jpgs, both under the allowable limit but I could only do one. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

As fine a shot as it gets for rust. Nice composition and consideration in what you wanted to emphasize for strength.
A friend of mine has visited that site and shared about it. That whole area seems like a great place thumb.gif
    Welcome to dgrin too :D

Also, not sure why it wouldn't allow 2 attached images but then I am not familiar with attaching images.
I usually go to my smugmug where the image is located. Click on the image I want to share...go to share on the menu and drop it down for size selections... click a size... go to your start new thread and select the square yellow button with little mt and sun for insert image... paste the copied image location to where it says enter your URL... click enter. The image should come up and any other you select individually in repeat fashion. Think I got that description right :D give it a test drive. Should work.

Thanks for the instruction and the kind words. I'll give that a try. I have another shot I'd like to put up.

Very, very nice, Tom. The elements in the shot ( circle, dots, intersecting lines ) make for a very interesting composition. As a straight rust shot, you've done very well. BUT!! This shot cries out for the full RUST JUNKIE treatment.

We hardcore JUNKIES are an extreme bunch. The further from reality we can take rust images, the better we like it. We let the sliders fly when it comes to saturation, sharpening, or any other adjustments we can make that will release the hidden character of rust.

A lot of folks just aren't into the JUNKIE realm of fanatical processing. And that's OK. As I said, this shot here is very good. But I'd sure like to see this one after it has been thoroughly thrashed.

    More Rust
Thanks for all the great input. The reason I even wanted to join this discussion on Rust Junkies was because I really liked what I saw but maybe was afraid to push the envelope too far. Some folks get hyper critical of using too much saturation, vibrance and the like but I've always loved it. So here's the image again but pushed a little farther. I hope this will satisfy that craving for more rust.

I wanted to add that a few of my friends here in Washington State loosely refer to ourselves as "Team Rust". Two or three times a year, when our wives let us alone, we jump in a camper and go to eastern Washington, Oregon and Idaho to specifically look for rust and ghost towns. I've been doing it for several years and have never really found a home to share some of my favorites with. I'm glad I found this thread.

    Thanks again,

Tom, now you are getting somewhere! thumb.gif
You can push this even further. For some examples see the Rust gallery link in my Signature.

Oh yeah, now we're getting there. This is RUST JUNKIE food for sure. The really hardcore bunch of us have long ago accepted that some folks just can't buy into our philosophy concerning rust. As a matter of fact, I, myself, practice a huge amount of restraint in working with any other subject matter in the photography I do. But with rust....like with all other true JUNKIES, I know no boundaries. If you share our philosophy, I can assure you that you have found a new " band of brothers ".

Question, if I want to post more rust photos would I just start a new thread under the "other cool shots" heading or is there a more specific place to post to?

I was reading a sign along the road the other day. It said "Don't be like they are....Be like you are"
I like it :D Your additional version I was also looking forward to seeing, if you had put one together yet
    and you have.
Sweet thumb.gif Heading down a good road. Either version.
I was also hoping there would be more seen than in the first version, and there is. YES !!!

    Hi Tom,

It's best to start a new thread for each new offering.... keeps things from getting bunched up. OCS is the proper forum for posting rust shots.
