The Concours is held at historic Pebble Beach. Over the years, it's been the place to exhibit classic cars.

Parking is about 20 minutes away from the event. Everyone rides the motor coaches (it would be unfair to call them buses as they were pretty nice).

This year, a tribute to Carroll Shelby. And of course, many other cars too.

Judging takes place in the morning and winners are paraded in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I had other commitments and didn't stay for the winners.

Of course, luxury manufactures ply their wares too.

If you like the classics, it's an awesome event to attend.

I am seriously under familiar with classic cars. Just no time to get into all the details. But I really enjoy viewing them just the same.
Fine work gathering up this set of images with nice notes. The one judge looks quite serious as if there is not one detail that would escape him.
For all the nice shots I am all at attention over that crystal hood ornament and your shot detailing it.
The woman sitting in period clothing on the running board. Lovely. First thing I'd do is clone out the guys partial head behind her in the window. mwink.gif He has got to go.
Have enjoyed your works thumb.gif Much appreciated your sharing them

Some of the judges walk in small groups (I'm guessing these are the class judges) and others are one or two. The conversation is always that. They're discussing the car, the level of restoration and how parts were sourced and if they were manufactured, how their research led them to manufacturing. They would look at the detail under the car, have the owner start the vehicle, sometimes even honk the horn-no stone was left unturned. Consequently, owners toiled over cars prior to the judges arrival-polishing the already finely polished cars; touching up small scratches, etc. Even the original condition cars were in great shape.

I followed a group of judges as they looked at two different cars. I amazed at the level of detail of the inquiry and the knowledge each of the owners posses.

The number of people at this event is incredible and making a photo with no one in it is pretty difficult lol3.gif

A nice, credible job of capturing the show, Ian. I spend a lot of time going to shows, but it's been a couple of years since I trekked over to the Pebble Beach show.

As you say, a show of this magnitude attracts hoards of people. That, along with many other issues, can make shooting such an event difficult at best. And what show of any consequence would be complete without Jay Leno staggering around the grounds?

"A Ford sets record at Pebble Beach auction; a Mercedes falls short.
A 1968 Ford GT40 is sold for $11 million at a Pebble Beach auction, while a prized 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster goes for $11.77 million." LA Times

Both have interesting stories. The GT40 was driven by Steve McQueen in the 1971 move "Le Mans". And the Mercedes has only two owners, one a Prussian baroness.

Thank you for all the kind comments!

Cd'E is deceptively small. At least it seems so. Perhaps it's the concentration of people in just a few areas.

The heart of the show stretches down just to the end of the crowd. Behind me is the parade area. It's got seating for a few hundred guests and open lawn seating for quite a few more-and it was filling up with folks who will never walk through the crowds to see the cars. Preferring instead to picnic and enjoy the parade of cars.
