Willy Wonka and the Heron Factory

Monday, I skipped out of work a little early and stopped by SJWS in Irvine to settle the score with some BIF shots...the GBH and BCNH were happy to oblige.

Eventually I want to get some good enough to hang on the walls in my office at work and the den at home - some of these are tempting to my newbie eye...

As always, please critique and comment if you feel the need ;)

you could probly go with a tighter crop on #1.

I like the detail on the last two the only thing that would make them better shots is if they were flying in the other direction. But then you wouldn't have the great detail on the back feathers.
You will get your hangers soon for your office and home, good luck.

Hey Bob, thanks for the comments...I got some of them flying toward me but I need to work on my technique a little better, they were kinda out of focus due to the shutter delay (I think) but some are salvageable.

Ben I got these guys about 5 minutes after I ran into you and yours...I was pretty stoked seeing as how Bolsa Chica was a tough day exposure-wise for me :pimp :pimp :pimp

Thanks for the kind words about my work, means a lot coming from someone who has a lot of talent like you do...

No complaints from me. I'd put 1 and 2 on my wall any day. Nice work.

Well done Helmet. thumb.gifthumb.gif I didn't have as much luck with my GBH today. He was about a hundred yards out or so ...over the water. I had a Tokina 300mm and got some very mediocre shots. Too slow to catch up with the AF. Can't wait to upgrade that lens. Look forward to seeing more BIF. :D

Another nice series of images, with very good details and sharpness in these photo's

I love the blue background with the water, it makes the birds stand out more.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Jeff, they were making an unusual amount of trips between two locations, and I was lucky enough to be there!

Excellent BIFs Brett. I would do a tad less sharpening on them.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Harry, took me a while to learn what proper sharpening should look like...here's a re-work of #1 using what I learned by doing some web searches on halos and how to properly sharpen images with USM...

    Regards,

    Brett
