Google webmaster tools tells me to upload their verification file to my website. How do I do that?

Check Google's instructions on doing that. You'll need to use the "meta tag" option and can add that meta tag to your SmugMug account settings > style > advanced customizer > head tag box.

How does one go about this on the new SmugMug using a basic account?

I tried verifying my site using my Google Analytics code, but Google said the code was malformed. You need to use the Asynchronous code - I guess SmugMug is using something else.

Really I just want to verify my site now I have unveiled the new version. I want to be able to remove some images from Google search.

Any news on the ability to verify using meta tags? I can verify with Google Analytics with no difficulties using the Google Analytics box in the Stats section of My Account. however if I then try to verify Google Webmaster Tools I get the same 'Verification failed for http://miseast.smugmug.com/ using the Google Analytics method. The Google Analytics tracking code on your site looks malformed' method that dunxdgot. Does anyone know if there is another solution other than the DNS solution (which I will use if needbe)

    tx

edit: I appear to have it working under another google account where I had verified it before (I have different Google usernames but all of which were admins here). It may be related to that but frankly I'm a bit afraid of messing with it at the moment to find out as there is no way of getting it back once lost

Okay, try to bring it up again, maybe some one from SM is listening: how to edit the element of the site (new design) in order to apply google webmasters tools tracking code?

You cannot. Use the DNS verification method if you have a custom domain, currently it's the only way.

I'd love to see that again if possible. My main site stopped verfying with webmaster tools back on 30/8 and using Google Analytics as the verification doesn't work either.

They have worked on a lot of things in the meantime, but didn't communicate them.
Check "Account Settings -> Discovery -> Search" - they put a field for webmaster tools verification there.
And "Account Settings -> Stats" for the GA verification. Both are working fine.

Oh hugely well spotted Jörg - thank you clap.gif
My site is now happily verified again. Clearly I'm going to have to go and have a nose round all the menus again to see what is new but I might leave it a week first

    Thanks again
