I don't thing many of you know, but I moved to Charlotte, NC three weeks ago for my job. Really nice city and great people. I attended my first air show since moving south this weekend. The annual Winston-Salem Air Show was held on Saturday and Sunday at Smith Reynolds Airport in WS. It's about an hour from home, and I went up on Sunday, meeting some Facebook friends. No jet team, and not much military presence, but they had an interesting show none the less - the featured performers were the privately owned A-4 Skyhawk and Sea Harrier.

1 - A herd of Yaks :D

2 - Mustang launch

4 - Former Royal Navy Sea Harrier, also privately-owned.

5 - Racing a jet-powered school bus.

6 - We don't get jet-powered outhouses at air shows in New York...

7 - Biplane demo

8 -They had a couple of guys jumping motorcycles - and no, they didn't jump over any airplanes!

9 - AH-1 Cobra

As always, top quality work. I sincerely enjoy your sense of timing in these shots. Beyond your spot-on timing is the excellent compositional arrangement in the frame. You also manage to capture sense of scale, something frequently missing in this type of work posted by others. Thank you for sharing.

In the interest of constructive feedback....
You might want to consider heavily culling your on-line galleries. You've got some _amazing_ work, but it is kind of hard to find amidst the thousands of other images scattered across dozens of galleries.

Also, I've done extensive research on the effectiveness of slideshows on the font page of gallery sites using some advanced analytics. Surprisingly, slideshows are traffic killers. They are one of the least "sticky" features one can put on a photo site. A better approach is using thumbnails of the most popular shots. Such an approach drives traffic much more effectively than a sideshow. You may have different results, but I'm curious if you've tried analyzing the effectiveness of the slideshow.
Please feel free to post any reworks you do of my images. Crop, skew, munge, edit, share.

    Hi John,

    Nice pics, as usual.

Welcome to the South. As you say, Charlotte is a nice place to live. Its best feature, however, is that it's only a couple of hours from there to the NC High Country up around Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, etc., etc. I spend a couple of months each year up there and would love to meet up with you for some real mountain shooting. Fall will be here soon and those mountains just jump alive with stunning colors.

    Take care,

    Tom
I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Very Nice! I shot an airshow for the first time this Saturday. Looks like you had MUCH better light than I did (had to shoot into the afternoon sun).

Thank you all, I really appreciate the kind words. CJ, I saw your air show photos, and I think you did a good job - I've shot in those conditions more times than I can count. Ryan, thank you for your feedback - honestly, I've not put too much time into analyzing traffic on my site, but once life settles down a bit, I might take a closer look.

Tom, I knew you spent some time in these parts, and was hoping to hear from you. I actually have an air show buddy who lives up in Ashe County. I took a ride up there a couple of weekends ago. It was a cloudy day, but I could see the potential in the area. I look forward to the opportunity to meet up and do some shooting!
