    Good capture!
To me, it looks like the "Jealous older brother", from your darker PP. The skateboard adds to the 'bad-ness' of the boy!

You know, this really grows on you lol. The expression on his face is awesome. I know it has some flaws, but I like it.

He is totally out of sight!!!!!!! Did you want the bkg the way it is set up? I realize that there are many views on art but the one factor that matters is that each of us knows what we like. I'm not into the bkg but I realize that others probably are. What can I say, it's art.

It might not make it to your portfolio because of the "flaws", but it's a great snapshot and I'm sure mom will love it.

What do folks consider the flaws to be?

The picture has a certain dark content, kind of drama to it. Mainly due to the boys expressions and the darker toning /shadows. The half Skateboard , and the rolled backdrop add to the drama.
So, yes its ok and different... Now comes the real question. Was this intentionally made this way (half skateboard etc...) or is it merely been lucky with a failed picture ? You are the only one who can tell us.
If it is been lucky, then I would say "not so good" else I would say "great job". So you see everything is relative in photography.

Lol, ok, I'll jump in. Don't worry guys, I'll be posting some people shots soon and you guys can critique me for a change lol.
LH BG, shadowed wrinkled. Could be cloned out
Face slightly under exposed, but the eyes are piercing from the face, nice
Bottom of skateboard cut off, no biggie to me

Buutttt the whole package is very nice, the dark contrast, and the posture and expression really steals the show lol. I can almost feel him trying to balance on the board, which adds some tension to the image. This almost feels like a Joel Grimes? image. Kind of gritty/ smokey.

But I really like the image, I'm one that will break rules in a heartbeat lol.

Wow thanks for all the input folks!

tyler is my grandson and he hangs out with me everywhere. Like I mentioned I was setting up to shoot a famliy shot for my daughter.
I have the backdrop rolled up and out of the way to keep it from being played on untill I use it!
The white pegboard laying down is to cover an old can't get it clean enough garage floor.
he didn't want his picture taken, cuz his mom wanted him to do it. They got into squabble about it and he ranaway to his 'paparolleyes1.gif
I knew I had only a couple frames to get him so.....
this is the second and last frame I got. He jumped off and said no more!!!
I really like this processing and have been trying to get it down.
If you folks want to play with it..... run hard run fast and take seven dollars with ya!!!:D
    Thanks for all the help!

I can't help but wonder if this is what you're going for? Skip to 6:45 in. Almost a darker edgier image.

sorry I have to disagree whole heartedly. The images needs to stand on its own here whether it was intentional or not. you can't tart looking into the intentions of the photographer to decide anything...

Qarik you hit it on the head.

This is a "candid" image that happened to be on a "set"...
It is useable to me to learn this light and post production technique.

I like J.Grimes images, killer stuff to my eyes! As is A. Lebowitz's.

Thanks for all of the feedback!

You're most welcome sir. Is it ok if we tinker with you're image and post it? I noticed the metadata was copyrighted. I think I have something you may like. I carried it through the Grimes technique. Or let me know an email so I can send it to you.

Cool, thanks. It's easy to work a photo when you start with a solid image. I kind of thought I knew which way you were headed with it lol. I also like Grimes' technique.
