Vault archival opinions, folders by year?

I have many years of "personal family" photos that I want to start to backup in the Vault. I signed up tonight but I'm not sure of a good workflow to upload 12 years of photos that are organized in folders by data taken.

Right now, I browse in Lightroom by year and date the pictures were taken (folder name) 2012-07-15

I have all these files in these folders now, but if I upload them into the vault, I think I loose that level of organization, correct? So, my question is this, would you just create a 2010 folder and put all images from 2010 in that folder? Then trying to find specific pictures would be harder, right?

Sorry for the unclear question, I'm just not sure how to get the ball rolling...

Jeff

My server is offline at the moment, but I would say that the last 3 years I have saved as RAW, but before that, they are all JPG.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Are there others that use the Vault to backup all your images?
My WHS is not reliable and i want to get all my pictures backed up so I can sleep easier. :D

I upload everything into an archive section by year and date like you're talking about. Archive-->year-->YYMMDD. You have to remember when a particular photo was taken, but it's pretty easy once you nail down a year and month. I don't have any RAWs or a smugvault, so I'm not sure how that would affect things, but I'd assume the files would stay in the gallery they're uploaded to.
