The Canon ring is stupid expensive for a simple non-electrical accesory, it happens to be the same one for the 300 f4 L I believe. I was wondering if anyone has found a 3rd party manufacturer whose ring gets the job done for a reasonable price. I've shot with a monopod mounted to the body and used the left hand under lens shade technique, but it always ends up lookin like you are about to say 'Pull" at a trap range. I know the tripod ring has to be steadier and more manageable. Any suggestions?

I've never heard of that before.

Do let us know if you find one.

If you don't mind the wrong color, Canon makes a black ring which is alot cheaper then the white ring.

I don't care a poo about the color. I didn't know that this option was available.

    Is it an exact fit?

I have also been curious to know if there is a cheaper tripod ring. I will be buying the 70-200 f/4 hopefully soon and I don't want to have to pay over $100 for the ring!
