Nice shot / subject / opportunity / light ... but (imo) a much lower pov would've been well worth the effort / trying.
If it was taken at a local venue that you visit on a regular basis ...with similar opportunities, suitable situations'd be worth checking out.
No idea if you're familar with Danny Green (another Brit), but having a shufties at some of his grebe pics in the 'lowland freshwater' gallery gives an idea of what I'm talking about.

I've had a look at the link you provided - some beautiful pictures of grebes and other birds there and I do see what you were saying.
Unfortunately, the location I took the shot at is a canal and the banks are higher than the water level, although having said that I took the shot from a crouched down postion - if I go there again, I will try taking pictures of the grebes lying down.
