Overall I think the shot is great. There's no lens flare or anything. The only thing I think could have been better is the angle. In the lower left corner you can see how the sunrise is shimmering off the lake, if you would have moved left and caught some of that, that would have been great. But overall it looks great.
Thanks, Illuminati! Actually, it's a river, although it doesn't look like it. It necks down on the left to a narrow strip. 33 miles to the right is NYC.
I agree it would be great to get more of that reflection in the picture next time. I'd have to take the picture from another location though which would entail driving around before sun-up. This is taken from my rear deck which is on top of a mountain. So all I need to do is roll out of bed and start shooting. That's why I'm interested in improving the shots. Every day is different sunrise.
The hard part is finding an exposure where the view is visible without blowing out the rising sun. Maybe I can do something with layers.

Lucky stiff!! Nice view for breakfast :hotcake
I think I would give the saturation button a tap or two. I wonder how it would look if you ran the burn tool over the trees in front to show a little detail?
I like the sun rays.
Thanks, Zed. I tried some saturation, and the burn tool. Did you mean the dodge tool though? I think that's the one that supposed to lighten things. At any rate, I really made a mess of it. Instead, I lightened the whole shot some. In comparing with the original, I realized I applied the changes to the wrong photo. Doh! Anyway, here's what I came up with.
Wow ! Thats taken from your rear deck ? I cant see something like that without driving for a half an hour. Is that the Hudson River which comes from Hudson Bay ? Keep shooting from your deck, I would really enjoy seeing more of these kind of photos.

Hmmm.... I don't think so.

Thanks, man. Yeah, that's the fog, a very common occurence out this way.
Incidently, if you click on my location under my avatar, then click on Hybrid or Satellite view, you can get an arial shot of this location. This is a very cool feature of this site.
