Im very ticked off at smugmugs new price increase.
I have a domain that a registered thru smugmug with godaddy. i called godaddy today to see about having my domain point somewhere else besides smugmug.
How do i do this? Go daddy says I have to contact SM an dhave then unlock the domain. How exactly?

    Hi rdking647,

I am very sorry to hear that you are upset with the new price increase. If you need to make changes to your custom domain name you will want to remove your custom domain name from your SmugMug Account Settings. You can do this by clicking: Tools>Account Settings>Style, then remove your custom domain name and click Save Changes.

Once that is complete you can log into your GoDaddy.com Account and change the DNS setting and/or Nameservers as you need without any conflict.

If you have more questions, or need more help, please email us directly at help@smugmug.com, we will give you a hand.

Glad to hear this is a very easy thing to do. thumb.gif I've seen other companies make things excessively hard just because you set up the domain through them.

It is important to keep in mind that you registered the domain through GoDaddy, not SmugMug. While we have a reseller account with them, we are not a domain registrar and it is GoDaddy that will prevent you from transferring the domain to another registrar like Hover or Network Solutions, etc. Regardless of what your SmugMug Account Settings say, you need to make the changes with GoDaddy and with their support staff. Usually this involves pointing the nameservers elsewhere or pointing the A '@' record to another IP and the CNAME 'www' back to @.

    With best regards,
