Lost in Summer

This is a photograph of Lost Lake, Oregon, with Mount Hood in the background. This was my first and only visit to the lake, and by sheer luck I happened to visit at a time of day (and year) when the sunlight on the mountain was just sublime. I was surrounded by throngs of locals who seemed well aware of this, as if it were a mere platitude. The drive to the lake is somewhat sombering, passing through miles of backcountry that one would hope is pristine, but in reality is quite logged. But as one nears the lake, the National Forests start to take over, and this sombering reality fades. It is nevertheless a reminder that true wilderness is becoming a luxury good, while thin veneers of wilderness are becoming far and far more common.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy!

Haha, Thanks Randy! Everyone looks at me funny when I tell them I don't even have any current plans for a replacement. I love the thing! It produces a lovely depth that current cameras are failing at reproducing, in my opinion.

Very nice image! I tried to get up there 2 years ago the day after thanksgiving after an overnight snow, by about 5 miles (heading from the hwy 26 side) the snow was severly scraping the bottom of my little Subaru and I just didn't want to chance getting stuck up there. I was hoping to capture that image with pristine untouched snow... to no avail, I have yet to make it up there. Great shot and thanks for sharing.

I'm with you on that, and have stated here several times, that IMHO, my 5D produced the richest, smoothest colors of ANY camera body that I've owned! That camera definitely has that intangible "magic" that others just can't quite achieve!
