Canon SX40 HS - Info Needed

I had never heard of the SX40HS till someone asked me about it. After doing some research on it I see people are buying this because of the reach in the telephoto ability and for an over all walk around camera. That had me interested because I thought this might work for our son. But .. it does have the 'intelligent IS technology' and I'm not too keen on it. Our Canon S100 has the intel IS and I don't think it works well at all. In fact I wonder if it makes things worse.

If anyone has any info on it .. use it, etc. I would love to know what you think of it and if it's worth buying.
