A really sweet capture Ric. The grebe's reflection in the water plus the great colors in the water all add up to a really fine image.

I had hoped that this image would have gotten more attention but alas:cry
Anyhow I'm bumping this up again because it is so good and it illustrates some good points that I emphasize when I'm teaching new photographers.
The subject is not anything rare, its not a dramatic capture, its not a glamorous subject (i.e. raptor, lion, tiger, etc)
What Ric did here was to maximize the available possibilities in a scene with the result being an almost perfect capture.
The subject is in outstanding morning light and Ric correctly adjusted his exposure by stepping down a third of a stop.
Great details on the subject and the eye stands out extremely well.
Finally Ric had and used a beautiful BG.
Ric took a scene that many photographers would have passed up and produced a wonderful image.

As you can tell by the catch-light in the Grebe's eye, this was an early morning shot.
There is no substitute for good light.

Well, I for one wouldn't have walked away from such an opportunity - whether I'd have got a decent pic (like this) is another matter, of course
If possible / practical I'd have also tried shots from a lower pov and maybe some movement / action ?
