So when did videos not opening in lightbox change happen? Another silent update we were not notified about?
I like it though. :D

    Hey Allen,

Glad you like it! Yeah, sometimes we do some soft roll outs when new features are ready. If you do want the lightbox link, you can still access that in the Owner Share tools. :D

Um, but how the hell do you actually see a 1080p video in full size?

There is a size selector in the lower right. But is that actually 1080p or a re-sized 1080p?

    Full screen?

The only way to get Full HD is to be in lightbox and then arrow to the video. headscratch.gif

Yelp, did that, but I have galleries with only videos and won't work there. No photo for entry into lightbox.

You can just click on the full screen button to see the video filling your screen. :D

If you still want the LB, you can click on a photo to open LB and then navigate to the video. Right now there's no option to open LB for a video directly.

Maybe you could share some details on your video viewing preferences.

For me, the full screen option makes perfect sense as I only have a 1920 px wide screen at best and other than in full screen can't really see a full HD video properly.

I guess you refer to using 30" screens?

Why does the main photo in Smugmug style not have an image showing for a video?
Looks kinda dumb with a blank big box. headscratch.gif

Looks like someone needs to generate images for each display size. :D

Be great if we could pause the video and click "use this as display image".

I didn't realize the change until I saw some different options for the sizes in lightbox view. headscratch.gif But Andy's point on the size and lightbox is dead-on. This will definitely need to be fixed quick.

Sounds like a coding error for sure where an array wasn't enumerated completely. ne_nau.gif

I wasn't real thrilled with the new way video's are displayed/played, so I switched my three galleries to html only pages and embedded my YouTube videos. So far I like it much better, but I'll have to wait and see what my friends and customer think about it.

Here's the link to those three galleries:

    Hi,

Are you referrring to the new video player?
I am also annoyed as I have uploaded 720p videos and the new player isn't even giving me the option of a drop down tab to change quality.
My videos only play 640x480 and when expanded full screen look crap.

Yes, not really fond of it. It also irked me that there was no notification it was changing, I had to discover it by accident.

My videos are best viewed at 720P-1080P even if you don't opt to view at full screen. Using embeded copies of my YouTube video slideshow versions seems to be the best option for me right now, plus I only have to upload the video slideshow once. I set the embedded size to 720x405 to provide a slightly larger viewing area.

I've converted my multimedia galleries to html only to accomodate the embedding. This is the same format I use for all my short stories minus the embedding.

Unless smugmug can sort this out I'll probably jump ship.
Video was the biggest selling point for me when I joined smugmug and my video just appear dismal now. I dont now ifs its a gallery setting but I am annoyed that there is not a quality tab to increase the quality.
    As an example
the first video in this gallery was was uploaded at 720p the second was 1080p

I will contact smugmug help see if it can be rectified

I was able to change the resolution on your videos and they looked great on my computer monitor. I had to place my mouse pointer over the viewing area for the menu to appear at the bottom. Then it was just a matter of selecting a resolution, I chose 1080P. It would be nice if the menu was visible a couple of seconds longer. The new player works with your setup, but it didn't provide a large enough viewing area with my setup.

I hate this. Please try to see this from a photographer's perspective. (I realize there are videographers here that may have a different perspective.) My videos are sort of Ken Burns effect films made from my stills. I want them to be seen at the rendered size, not blown up to fit a giant screen. And yet I like full screen display because it removes distractions -- it is what Apple calls "theater mode" It is lights out, let's watch the film mode. I used to have the option of bringing my film back down so I could watch it at its actual size. Now I don't.

What I really want is for the video to default in full screen mode to Actual size. I realize that this wouldn't please everyone -- some would want their films to default to being blown up to fit the full screen no matter how fuzzy that would make them. Why can't the owner choose?

I just found this out now, after sending a link to a wedding client. The video looks awful! So how do I get the fullscreen to play HD?

I liked the choices of which size to play much better. At least the cruddy blurry photos could be plainly seen by visitors as low res, and they could click for a better view. This is awful awful awful.

Edited to delete my frustrated sarcasm.

Check if your videos are in a password protected gallery. There's currently an issue where for such galleries, the size option for videos in the video player isn't showing. As a temporary workaround, you could get the lightbox link from the share button > get a link > gallery links tab. In lightbox, there should be still size options at the top of the page.
If you still have an issue or your gallery isn't password protected, write us at the HelpDesk.

Yes, it's a password protected wedding that was held on 9/15.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I can't share a link with the two hundred or so guests who have the web address to view photos printed on little engagement photo cards that the bride and groom gave to them. Perhaps I can share it with the couple, but that's about it.

Either way, I already send them one link prior to being aware of the problem, so the damage is done.
I did write the help desk yesterday, and two heroes did their best to assist. But neither mentioned the bug with password protected galleries, so not much was accomplished despite their best efforts.

This was an inadequately tested release that your subscribers were not notified about

Bring the old view back, please. This current broken one is bad for business.

Please fix the video player!!! This was the main reason for me to choose SM.

I want my video to be shown at the exact pixel size rendered!

    That simple.

    - No saw-toothed downscaled version in the small viewer on the right side (when in smugmug style).
    - No unsharp blown-up version of the video when in fullscreen mode.

The current situation is useless for me.

Please fix that soon... and tell us about it! thumb.gif

I found a work around to at least give the viewer an option to see the video in the lightbox.

See first video on this keyword page and also look at video in the original gallery. Videos/photos on the
keyword page carry the caption of the original gallery. In order to open then close the lightbox I had
to designate which lightbox to run so it would return to either the gallery or keyword page.

    caption

<font color=blue>Click here to open video in lightbox then <br />

Just checked out my videos. What a bunch of bullsh*t. Why didn't SM tell us this change was coming? My videos look horrible! Talk about downgrading a service. Won't be renewing my account with a company that, without consulting clients, makes changes that impacts original expectations of quality service. Bad move SM.

Password protected galleries still lack resolution choice
It would really be appreciated if someone from Smugmug would chime in here with some sort of 'easy to explain to clients' solution, or better yet, put it back the way it was. Thousands of customers of SM shouldn't be made to feel like they have to find some convoluted workaround for clients to see a slideshow of decent quality in a password protected gallery.

It's October, and there must be thousands of us posting wedding video slideshows for our clients' first viewing experience of their images. That first experience is horrible at the moment, and making photographers who use SM look completely incompetent. I wish I understood code and could write it, but can't. Although this is SM's problem, they have made it mine by neglecting to either put the video view back the way it was, or fix the 'bug' on PW galleries. I really don't appreciate whoever was responsible for this decision breaking it, and dumping the issue on me and every other SM customer who uses passwords on galleries to find a solution on their own.

When my computer acts up, I can reset it to a date in the past, and then it acts like it used to. Can't the team at SM do the same for video playing? Leaving it broken for weeks now on all password protected galleries is unacceptable.
