Keeping Custom Header and Navigation Bar when sharing a gallery in a Community

New here...just trying to figure something out and hoping someone can offer some advice.

I want to be able to have some of my galleries shared in the SmugMug Communities, however I've noticed that when I add a Gallery to a Community, my Custom Header and Navigation Bar are no longer shown when in that Gallery. I've seem some smugmug sites that have figured out how to keep their Header and Nav Bar showing, but not sure how to accomplish this.

Any advice?

Thanks so much! Loving Smugmug and hoping to get to know some more people on here soon :D

    HI Kelly,

Welcome! Well some communities will have customization completely disabled, or even the community leader's customization displayed.

From within the gallery, click Tools > This Gallery > Gallery Settings. In the Look and Feel section, set the appearance to Custom. Then, scroll down to the Community section and do the same. If allowed, your customization will show through.

If you have any questions or problems, please do not hesitate to write the help desk, or post here. We're always happy to help!

    Cheers,

Thanks for such a fast response Nick!! I followed those steps, unfortunately it looks like the Communities I wanted to join have it set up to remove my customization. That sort of bums me out since when my friends, family or clients visit my gallery, if it's in a Community that doesn't allow for my customization, I'm afraid they will get confused and have a hard time getting back to my main home page, and subsequently become frustrated with my site. Thanks for the help though, much appreciated!

    Confused!
I have a similar problem to ReturningHome. I joined two communities (Fireworks and SportsImages) so that I could add some of my galleries to them.

When I did this I noticed that a customized footing (basically a copyright notice) was being removed. I therefore removed my galleries again.

Your reply to ReturningHome says that whether customisations are allowed or not depends on the community in question. So far I have not found a Community that would seem to allow my footing. The Gallery Settings Community section seems only to offer SmugMug and Community as options regardless.

In addition, this SmugMug Help page (http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93262) states "Note: Galleries associated with a community will either be smug default, or community default. They will not show your customization."

Can you please clarify. Specifically, can you tell me if it is possible for me to join a community, add a gallery to AND keep my Copyright footing?

    Gerry,
Your customizations are done with the Easy customizer and those cannot be retained in communities regardless of the community settings at this point. It's only advanced customizations that are supported if the community doesn't force its own branding.

    I hope this helps.

    Sebastian,
Thanks for the speedy reply. I understand the answer.

Unfortunately it does not help me to join any communities and keep the copyright notice without going through a lot more hassles.

    Cheers

You could just add your copyright notice to the advanced customizer and try out the communities you're interested to see on which ones it's retained.
You can find the advanced customizer in the account settings > style section. This page describes some of the basic html tags you can use to format your text in the advanced customizer.
