Some snaps of the night herons in the backyard. Some serioulsy crappy lighting late this evening. What's with these birds? :dunno They love to come out and play by the hoards when there's an incoming storm and poor lighting. They are teasin' me..I swear!!!! :wxwax Digi + poor lighting + ISO 800 + fast birds = Strange looking grainy/noisy shots that almost look like drawings. Grrrrr. Where is that sun. Sunshine state my butt. :rofl

Your right........the images do look like line draws, quite a nice effect actually......I really like what you did with that Moon shot, but did you notice the two really big spots on the left hand side (dust spots)
That is something I need to see if I can do with my Wolf's ......your pretty clever........bad lighting can really such when a great opportunity arrives, but you can only do what you can do, least you still got some keepers out of it.
Very Very good attempt on your part ....... Skippy (Australia)

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment, Skippy. I did not see the spots. :cry My sensor needs a serious cleaning after the other day. I was swapping lenses all day ....outside in a good breeze. Sometimes I think I see the little nasty spots..and then I don't. It's hard to spot the things on the blue skies. Grrrrrrrr. I wish I could go to B&H and buy some better eyes. rolleyes1.gif Thanks for pointing this out. rolleyes1.gif

I'll have to go and rework a lot of my images. I'm still just scratching the surface of this post processing stuff. I could do some noise reduction on these images as well, I suppose. They do print up rather interestingly.

It's amazing the difference a little more "good" light makes. Here is the same bird...same backyard, same camera..different day with some light.

Nice effect on that last shot/merge. I'm not sure I can take your complaints about your weather very seriously. It's 11* out side as I write this. eek7.gif

Thanks Steve. I'm really sorry to hear about your cold weather. :giggle :lol4 :lol4 :D I spent many winters freezing in the boonies of Illinoizzzz. :cry Be sure to pass the word around it's really really cold in Florida and the sun is not shinning. There are still the threats of hurricanes and all the birds have left.

Fly by Night immediately pictured a picture of an owl flying towards me in my head. Even the lyrics seem to fit with your images:
    Start a new chapter
    Find what I'm after
    It's changing every day
    The change of a season
    Is enough of a reason
    To want to get away
    Quiet and pensive
    My thoughts apprehensive
    The hours drift away
    Leaving my homeland
    Playing a lone hand
    My life begins today
I think people worry too much over noise, I like your images regardless of the noise.
enjoy being here while getting there

Thanks Marlof. The noise issue doesn't cause a problem if you are just looking at the work as an image in general. When a photograph is hard to tell it's a photograph due to noise..then I take issue with it....but not to the point that I'd throw anything like these out. If anything some images like this I'd tweek to push them more towards a drawing/graphic image ..rather than a sharp photo.

Regarding the Rush album. Ughmmm I won't say that I listen to that Rock 'n' Roll...or that I did think of that album when I posted the title of the post. "Moving pictures". :uhoh

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I was kind of surprised that a shot from a Canon had noise. I thought that wasn't supposed to happen unless you shot at ISO4800 or higher. rolleyes1.gif

That's partly true....but it's amazing what crappy overcast dim light will do for noise. Grrrrrrrrr. I suppose cropping a bit doesn't help...as I'm still shooting with my itty bitty 200mm.

If you ever get down here ..we'll go to the Venice Rookery..and I'll let you shoot my Canon off at the birdies. If you're nice..I'll even let you shoot as ISO 1600................

I would never touch a Canon. Not since the FDA reported they cause cancer. :D
