"Assumed HTML" Logic

I’m wondering why the “assumed HTML” logic is no longer documented in the Help pages? Specifically:
There are a few simple HTML tags which, when placed in bios, captions, and gallery descriptions, are ASSUMED to be HTML (i.e., no need for opening & closing <HTML> tags):
<strong> (<B>)
<em> (<I>)
<span style>
<h3>
<h2>
<center>
In other words, only the use of more "advanced” tags than those requires opening and closing <HTML> tags.
Conversely, a normal carriage return is treated as a <BR> EXCEPT in the presence of opening & closing <HTML> tags.
This feature may be a bit confusing, but it definitely saves keystrokes.

I'm not sure that it was part of the help pages before and I'm unclear on what extend of html tags are not filtered out when you don't use the html tags. The latter might be a reason why the subject isn't covered on help pages - it would just confuse many people that already struggle with the basics.
On the other hand, I see many people that don't use it and most of those likely just added the code and saw that it works.

If it helps, the last time I found something in the Help pages about this feature, it was in January of 2011 -- at this former link: http://www.smugmug.com/help/html-help. (I directed John Friend to it when he was developing his slideshow.) It had been removed by June of 2011.
I get your point about the risk of confusing people with too much information. But I guess I'm one of those people who finds an oversimplification/omission even more confusing. Especially when it leads to unnecessary work. (The current documentation states, "When adding HTML, be sure that you've got everything sandwiched between <html> and </html> tags.") Perhaps there's a way to link to geeky details on a separate page??
Thanks for listening!
That said, the html help page lives on. Not sure why the redirect isn't in place. I've reported that to see if we can put it in.
