Transitioning Domains

So many years ago when I was something like thirteen, I purchased my domain "morffed.com" against the advice of a teacher of mine who recommended I go with my own name. I now see the merits in not having to write it down every time I tell someone, and have therefore purchased johnborlandphotography.com, since some guy with my name in Berlin took my teacher's advice. :rofl I'd like to transition my website onto the new domain and point the old domain to the new.
Can I do this in a way that will leave former links intact? Since I started with smugmug, there's a lot of links to me out there that I assume will be either broken or simply redirected to my main page. Am I out of luck, or is there a neat way to transition?
Thanks in advance.

You could forward the old domain to point to the new domain, but forwarding isn't supported well, that can create a bit of a mess.
If you need anything else, please let us know.

I've wondered about a similar question and am curious if this would work.
Set up a new account (admittedly you pay twice).
Create all the galleries again, but as "smart", and set them to include all photos from the old domain automatically.
Then you can either add new photos to the old domain (and they go to both), or add to the new domain (and they go only to the new domain).
Would that work? And avoid a complete new upload, and also avoid loosing old links?
I tried it in a very brief test and no images ever came over from the rules, but I probably just didn't do it correctly?
