While the head's a nice idea, you don't really need it. And if you're shooting
actions sports, it will just make life more difficult.

I use to use Bogen/Manfrotto...but I switched to Giottos for both t-pod and m-pod.....for mono pod I have the Giottos P-POD it has 3 support legs attachable at bottom or you can attach them near top to use in an almost prone position for flowers and close up...italso has a 2 way tilt head...the only draw back is twist locks on legs but I got caught on the bogen clamps more than once and always on cold days...OUCH! I bought from PhillyPhotoSupply on ebay:
