Yes, So. Calif., thanks for the good words. We looked up Mandarin ducks on the internet, and found a lot of interesting information about these cute little ducks. There are many facts about them, as well as opportunities to buy a pair, however I don't think it would be possible now with the bird flu scare. Who would want a duck farm anyway?
Photography isn't about the Zone System or any other Ansel Adams nonsense.
It's simply about seeing. You either see or you don't see, the rest is
academic.

Since its been said twice I won't mention a lower angle. Marvlous colors in the capture. Sweet.

i have about 2 dozen ducks. they provide me with subjects when i can't find any elsewhere....i would love to have one that colorful. i have a couple of drakes, but since they are all mallard types, they don't flash like this little guy does.
Nice shot and the Mandrian Drake in his breeding plummage has to be one of the most beautiful birds in the Duck world. I had the oportunity to shoot one last February and it is one of my all time favorite photos. It now graces one side of my business card.
Pretty duck
Thank you all. I think this is a very pretty duck, and I'm pleased with the capture, however, I do want to point out that Bfjr and Jwear have also posted some excellant captures of the same little guy. The lighting is not good at the pond, and to get a lower angle would require some Suba gear; but it's worth the effort. It's great to hear from you Jeff, hope alls well.

The only negative I have is, as mentioned, a lower shooting angle/perspective would probably improve the shot and reduce the glare off the water.
Good work!!
