Feeding Frenzy

Gulls off of Vancouver Island in a Herring feeding frenzy.

One brave bird would dive in bringing up a beak full of Herrings. The others would then wait for the dropped fish.

Congratulations on superb work.
Question on #1: did you crop that close to the tail feathers or was this the capture? Can you provide any info about lens and distance from the birds?

This is very close to what I captured. Cropped slightly.

We were in a small boat drifting towards this flock of Gulls and actually got too close for the 400mm 2.8 VR lens I was using. The action was very frenzied and I was using a Nikon D4 so I was able to get several fast bursts of 6 or 7 frames to capture some of these moments.
