Three of my favorites from Buttermilk Falls, Ithaca, NY, last Saturday.

3)

Down in the canyon (Ithaca is Gorges!) it was hard to take anything except portrait orientation. Tried to make it smooth with 1/6, 1/8 sec. exposures, mostly handheld or rested on a rock. Sorted through a lot of blurry shots.

definitely a gorgeous spot for photos! 1/8-1/6 sec isn't quite slow enough for a stream like that... you really need a bit slower, like 1/2-3/4 sec. you really need a tripod for shots like that...

Thanks very much spacefuzz - it was absolutely breathaking, and my photos don't even come close to giving it justice, even with all the post-work I can manage!

Chuck, thanks for the kind words! I like #3 as well - well enough for it to be my entry for this round's Challenges (Splash!)

squirl - I agree that these needed a longer shutter and a tripod. 1/8 to 1/6 is all I can manage handheld, and even then I have camera movement on about half my shots. I left the circular polarizer at home because it was overcast, and my travel tripod wasn't back from repairs yet.... "Next Time" I'll have it!

Great location. Pics looks super considering you had no tripod. Nice job.
