For some reason this makes me think you're actually a family of Dalmatians. I tried a shot like this once with my family, totally stuffed it up. I might go back and look at them again to see if they are retrievable.

For what it's worth, I prefer the colour version. It gives the forest and setting more depth.

Really terrific image. I prefer the color to the black and white.

I'm surprised about the color preference, and that's a good thing. Appreciate Michswiss' and your take on that. It's always bloody difficult to really see your own work objectively.

I'm with you seastack - B&W simplifies and emphasizes the subject and patterns while giving the background a more abstract feel.
    Nice.

Ha, I'm just starting to change my mind and like the color more. Really, I just need to let it sit for awhile, or better, make small prints and put them on the wall. I'm putting together a blurb book for Christmas presents to the family ... mostly shots from time out here on the farm. I think either way, this will make the cut.

Choice is almost always, a good thing......go with your instinct.
    +1 on that self-objectivity thing.

For whatever it's worth: my problem with the black and white is that in it there is too little distinguishing the subject from the background, which is itself a black and white pattern; in the color image he, and his expression, leap out at us, and the blue sets him off from the background. Also, the color image has a quite distinctive, modern, art photography look to it.
