Boost mode initiated when I uploaded.

Assumption is boost mode speeds the upload.

Does it compress or reduce the photo?

In exchange for speed what do I lose?

Thanks

    Hi,
I'm not sure where you see boost mode. What specific app or uploader are you using? Maybe you could include a screenshot of that specific setting so we could see what you refer to. This page explains how you can take a screenshot.

The uploader I am trialing for Smugmug is StarExplorer. Under upload options there is a check box for boost. I have tried it and it greatly speeds the upload of large files.

Does anyone know the tradeoff gaining upload speed. In many instance the penalty is compression. Is that the case using StarExplorer's upload boost feature.

If you have a question about Star*Explorer you will probably get faster attention from Nikolai if you ask in the Star*Explorer Thread.

Why don't you download (owner save) one of the images uploaded with "Boost mode" on and compare it to the original file on your computer?

I've never used StarExplorer, but I would be willing to bet that it's re-compressing your images to make them smaller and faster to upload.

    Heard from Nikolai
I very much appreciate hearing from Nikolai. He is the developer of the package.

    This is his response:

the only tradeoff is that you cannot do anything else with S*E while in Boost Mode. No compression, it works 4x times faster that way...
