Resolution of uploads

I did a search before I posted this question and didn't find anything. I'm weak on the technical side of things. My vague understanding is that when I upload an image to SmugMug, there is no advantage to increasing the resolution of the photograph past 300 dpi. If prints are ordered, they won't be affected by any higher resolution I might choose when exporting the image. Am I correct? Any help would be appreciated.

Please see this explanation of why dpi really doesn't matter.

So my philosophy is to change my dpi in photoshop to 300 (making sure the only box checked is the constrain proportions and make sure the resample box is NOT checked) then take into Genuine Fractals and uprez to the largest I want to print in the future. If the file is too big to upload to SM then down size a bit ... ... but when I print a 30x40 or 40 x 60 I do not want anyone to have to stand 3 or 4 or 10 feet back to see a print that is not grainy...
Good Luck
