Taming the beast

Got my mark II in the mail on Friday and have been trying to learn the new system. This thing is huuuge Very different from the 20d, but I think also very intuitive once you start getting the hang of it.
Went out yesterday evening and due to traffic, got to Back Bay wildlife sanctuary just as the sun was goin down
Tried out bolsa today and it was pretty dry. Maybe because animals don't follow daylight savings...so now I'm missing them by an hour or so. Not much shooting and too much thinking on my hike...
By the end things were looking up and I even got a hummer (insert joke here)
But the highlight was the merlin (yes I know its a freaking kestrel--thanks to Brett) that lives and hunts by the Warner st. enterance to Bolsa. Everyday from 10am-noon and later this guy is hunting and perching in the area-- like clockwork. He wasn't doing much when I arrived today, but he put on a little show for me on my way to watch football.
I promised my self I wouldn't add the TC today--just learn the camera and then start adding more variables. That all went buh-by when I same him grab this vole. Wish that fence was a natural perch though.
Had some problems with the shadow detail, mostly 'cause I'm trying to learn spot metering, buit also 'cause I left it in -EV and the sun was giving me some pretty harsh angles. Learning this beast is a ton of fun though!
Thanks for the look!

Looks more like a Kestrel to me :pimp
The hummer is a great catch. Although I'm sure the misses wouldn't like knowing you got a hummer while out "pic taking "

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Congrats Jeff, nice shots. I'm sure I'll have to stand on the opposite side of the pond when you're firing that baby!
