Throughout the series, you've done a great job of controlling the DOF.....getting maximum impact in each presentation. The crisp detail, particularly in the critical areas ( eyes, etc. ), is exceptional. I'll give you a lot of credit for that....but having Nikon glass around doesn't hurt either. In any event, that element was superior.
The thing that impressed me the most, though, was your success in getting the character of the subject to come through in such a strong fashion.....in every single shot!!!! Son, that kind of perception and execution is a real gift.
Kudos, my friend,
Tom
Tom,
First, I'd like to thank you for such a concise response to my latest series of zoo shots.
I'm really thankful for your input, especially for your last paragraph. I tried with this zoo series to personalize the animals/birds as best I could. I found it particularly interesting/challenging to try and show some "character" of zoo animals/birds. I tried to avoid normal "documentary" type shots.
On composition, DOF and color:
- I always strive for good composition.
- I try to use composition and DOF to move the viewers eye to where I intend the main focal point to be.
- Color, the animals/birds take care of that aspect for me I just try to place my subject with a background that highlights the main subject.
On sharpness, I have no argument about the stellar Nikon glass!Again, thank you for taking the time for such an in-depth reply

Hey Rob,
Thanks for the comment. As to the nuts, I'll bet he'd enjoy them, but it would be a pretty long trip for you to get them here
Thanks for that Don!
Howdy Lauren,
I appreciate that!
I'm still blown away with the 70-200 VrII & 2x verIII teleconveter. Very sharp!
Dittos on what Tom said so well.
Inspiration for my next visit to the San Diego Zoo.
I was pointed here by Rob from another forum and I found this magnificent image of yours with a not less magnificent blue.
Great image Randy !
Natural selection is responsible for every living thing that exists.
D3s, D500, D5300, and way more glass than the wife knows about.
