Opinions on ordering LCD monitor from Amazon?

Just about to pull the trigger on a 23" ViewSonic monitor (the VP231wb).

Th other place might be TechOnWeb (right - I never heard of them either), with stellar scores at ResellerRatings.

Any thoughts, good or bad, with ordering from Amazon? I have ordered a few small things from them in the past with no problems, but this is something big and expensive.

I've ordered many things, big and small, from Amazon and have never had a problem (including my ViewSonic VP171b and VP201b). I have returned things, too, and never had a hassle.

That's good news. Thanks for chiming in. For some reason, Amazon's ratings are extremely low, but climbing back up to their woefully mediocre score from a year ago. Can't understand the reasoning behind the numbers. TechOnWeb is at or near the top. I might try them this time.

Anyone else have history with either of these two companies?

I have ordered small stuff (mostly books) from Amazon frequently both in the States and in Europe. I also bought some audio gear from them. Never had any sort of problem at all. YMMV, of course.

I've bought tons of stuff from Amazon - cell phones to books to memory cards - never any problems, ever.

I know they get complaints on their rebate program for cell phones (which is amazing, by the way) - slow redemption and many people don't know how to read and follow the detailed directions.

    I'm an big Amazon fan.

Amazon is a "front end" for some vendors like Adorama. It's good to pay attention to who is actually fulfilling your order.

Whoever you order from, check their policy on dead pixels. Some places will only let you return an LCD if it has more than say, 8 dead pixels. I don't think I'd want to be stuck with an expensive new monitor that had 7 dead pixels... I'd probably find a way to kill another one if that were possible.

    Trigger pulled
Did the deed. Techonweb. Let's hope they're as good as the comments indicate. Now the finger crossing and waiting game begins.

I suppose I had better get a new computer to go with that new monitor, eh? :D
