Smugmug destroying IPTC/Exif data in Display copies

I notice that while my original file has GPS location (Latitude, longitude, altitude), the display copies have only basic exif (shutter speed etc.,)
Is it intentional, or a bug?

That's by design - only certain metadata fields are retained in display copies. For details, check the exif for all section in the news blog.
