Shooting in the Rain

Living in the Pacific Northwest makes the enjoyment of our photography hobby a little more difficult in the fall and winter months and typically this is when we (I) catch up on my printing, organizing and editing stuff. The rain and dark skies set in about now, late October, and keep their grip on us all the way through June. It's not that it rains all the time, many places get more rain, but it is overcast, chilly and just kind of wet. So this year I've decide not to let that slow me down. I'll keep the rain gear and dry shoes near-by and covers for the gear and shoot in the rain. Plus I have a nifty new Olympus OMD E-M5 and it together with the kit lens it's supposed to be a sealed rig. I hope so.

So here's a couple from this past weekend.

These first two are Mowich Lake in the Mt. Rainer National Park. It was raining pretty steady and the camera and lens got pretty wet but nothing disastrous happened to the gear.

I admire your tenacity in shooting through less-than-desirable conditions. The first shot imparts a real feel for the general nature of the conditions you face. I have to tell you, though, dealing with that stuff from late October to June is more than I could handle. Good luck.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Thanks Tom. It's easy for this weather to get the best of folks but the cure is to just get out in it. Most of us Northwesters have all the right clothing to handle the weather and it rarely gets very cold. Being out in it is the best way to not let it get you down.
