In PS CS, what's full sequence of commands to choose a profile to soft-proof against? We've got a fellow Smugmugger who could use your help. I've got CS2 and below is what the menus look like.

In CS2, it's VIEW>PROOF SETUP>CUSTOM and you get this

and you select from "device to simulate" the ez-prints profile..

Let's show the power of dgrin!

Thanks in advance :D

I just followed your steps. They are identical in CS... well, except I don't have the ezprints.icc profile in my list. I imagine I could load that up, and it would be exactly the same.

The ezprints.icc choice does not come up under the profile (rather than device to stimulate) dropdown selection. Could it be that PS CS can't 'read' the profile file like PS CS2 can? I've checked the profile folder and the ICC file is definately in there. ....mmm

Deidre -- wave.gif welcome to Dgrin - thanks for registering :D

One thought - are you sure you are putting the profile in the color sync folder in your name - not the admin, or some other user's name on your mac?

You're funny, yes, I'm sure. This is odd! I'll take the profile from you here and see what happens. Thanks. d

I'm back Andy. Did bring the file from here into the profile and it's there when I look it up....but not in photoshop for a proof...perplexed how something so simple can have me stumped. d

sure, but where do I put the profile file? I thought it was a matter of going to the proof setup and loading the new file, but no, that's just to load different proof setup settings.

i can't find a folder where .icc files go.

    Courtesy of SmugMug help:

    http://www.smugmug.com/help/display-color
To install ICC profiles on a Mac with OS X:

Drag the ICC profile to the Users/[your login user name]/Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder.

Quit Photoshop and re-open it. Then go to the View menu, select Proof Setup and then the Custom... submenu.

Nevermind, I perservered and wooed spotlight into showing me the way. :D

there are however 4, count 'em 4 folders named "colorsync". 2 were easy to weed out since they didn't have .icc's in them, but the other two were very similar. I was out to 4 panes in the finder to tell the difference. I ended up putting the ez-prints icc in my profile folder. the only way I could tell it was "mine" was because it had my monitor profiles in it from when I run my EyeOne calibration.

So now I'm ready to proof in the ez-prints profile. Not that I have a clue how to do that or what it means!

You would go into your Use>Library>ColorSync>and drop it in the profiles folder. Then...it's supposed to open as an option in the Photoshop>View>Proof Setup>Custom>ezprints.icc
so....not so easy...maybe it is time for CS 2....
let me know if you have better luck! ;)

Wait - juuuust to be sure:

Macintosh HD>Users>DIEDRE>Library>ColorSync> and put it there - that's what you did, right?

    should look like this:

Sorry for the trouble Andy. Yes, that's exactly correct....
The one thing that is different is that in the Profiles,
the Cinema HD Display and sRGB has the color range icon like yours does....but the icc profile and the ezprints profile has an @http on the 'page', not the color gamut icon...maybe we're getting somewhere. When I open it up, there are pages of script defining the color source points.
