Nope. Both are 1 shot exposures, hand-held @ ISO 3200. To be honest, I took these while hiking up this path, thinking I was wasting my time because the light/shadows were crazy dynamic. I wanted to stop and setup some tripod shots but I was in hurry to get to another spot before the clouds rolled in. I was quite surprised with these shots when I got home. Some of my favorites from the trip. I may even have them printed large.

Here is one other. It was in a brighter spot so ISO was at 100 on this shot:

Another very good candidate for black and white, it looks surreal!

    Thank you for the details.

All are nice but that first one is superb! Well done, Alex!

I like the first B&W more than the last one posted but wonder if opening up the congested foreground blacks in #1 would help lead the viewer into the scene a tad more gently. Seems a bit forced as is.

    Thanks guys.

Doc... As I mentioned, I shot these at really high ISO. If I try opening up the blacks, I get a lot of noise. More noise than NR can handle so I chose not to. Honestly, I like the feel of these shots as is. I do appreciate the feedback though.

I think #1 is a perfect shot to use for some Halloween related activity. It would make a great marquee poster for a production of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I can almost see the Headless Horseman galloping down that path!

It's interesting that when this shot is opened in CS6, the foreground is opened up substantially more than translates onto this forum but I think that's the case in almost every translation. I did make a quick run with it through CS6/SEP2 and was able to knock the noise down substantially, and do a bit more opening. However, if it prints as it shows on CS6, then no worries mon.

I must say I like both #1 & #2... the first is my favorite for several reasons:

    1. I love how the path is is the leading line and how the perpendicular lines of the branches pull the eye "through" the trees.

    2. I really like the light at the end of the path, both for its beauty and its symbolism.

    3. The light at the top of the shot draws you "up"... When the eyes are pulled up, then the long tree becomes a new leading line!

    4. The leaves emit a sense of stillness -- serenity.

    5. Finally, I really enjoy the different emotions that I feel each time I look at the shot... First, a bit of angst then a sense of hope... When I look again, I feel peace, as though this "fork in the road" lead to the "right" path!

Thank you for sharing these shots--pure artistry!!
