Making keywords visible to everyone?

Hi,

I hope I can formulate this question clearly, here goes:)

I'd like to create multiple galleries, and have all galleries be searchable via keyword from the home page for a client, like I'm able to do when I'm logged in on my homepage. I don't particularly want the photos to be public, and I would like to be able to password protect individual galleries, yet still have the galleries be searchable by keyword, and most importantly, have the keywords be visible to the person searching. Essentially I'd like clients to be able to see available keywords, and use those keywords to find the photos they're looking for quickly, either from the homepage level across all galleries, and also within locked galleries. Is this possible?

Thanks. :)

Upon further googling, I guess keywords just aren't allowed in password protected galleries or sites. I can't even begin to imagine how that makes sense. eek7.gif

That's correct, if you unlist or password protect a gallery, keywords will not be available for visitors. A gallery would have to be public and not password protected for keywords and search to work.
If you don't want external search engines to index your galleries, you could make use of the SmugIsland options to make your site an island.

You can also password protect your site with the viewing password feature and search for visitor would still remain available.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply. :) I set a password for the site, and as soon as I use Visitor View, or log out and visit the site again and log in with the viewer password, the keywords are unfortunately not visible, the "Top 100 Photo Keywords" box is visible however, just empty. Is there another setting I need to check, or am I doing something else wrong?

    Thanks!

This is likely an site or gallery setting. If you could include a link to your site, I could take a look. No need to post your site password as SmugMug Heroes won't need that to assist you. :)

The issue is the 'hello smuggers' setting set to no in the gallery settings of your gallery. It's in the security&privacy section. Change that to "use site-wide setting" and after indexing has taken place, the keywords should also be available for visitors.
Indexing may take 24 hours to complete.

    Hi,
I am wondering if there is a way to accomplish this with the new Smugmug? Having my keywords visible and searchable (site searchable) is important to me, even in a few (not all) unlisted galleries.

    Thanks

Please don't post the same question in multiple threads. That makes extra work for the helpers here and it doesn't get you your answer any faster.

I've already answered this question from you in this thread.
