I found a crow dead in my yard a few weeks ago. It's in the middle of the lawn and just probably dropped out of the sky. Maybe the victim of a hawk since I have watched them arguing overhead more than once. I've been monitoring its process of decay and now it's reaching the interesting (and less gross) stage. Since a lot of people are disturbed by photos of dead animals (even natural deaths as this one appears to have been) I'll just show this one extreme close up for now. Later, I may include others so don't open this again if you don't want to see.



Shot with my old, manual, Olympus 90mm at probably f16. The sun had just gone down and I may revisit in some morning with the very low-angled sun on it to bring up the texture. The color though is real.

The beak colour/patterning is interesting, must admit I'm ok with "fresh" dead animals but decaying ones freak me out.

Eek. Sorry. This one is definitely done decaying and is just bones and feathers now. Nothing gooshy. This foot shouldn't worry you too much. Apparently they're not very appetizing, crow's feet. The structure and the detail fascinated me though. The different textures seem to be there to aid grip, for roosting I suppose. Or hanging on in storms.

Talking about the crow is kinda creepy, but I do find a haunting beauty in your shots of the bird. I really like the frost on the feather and the foot. Ti like the texture of the foot and the lines in the feathers.
