an odd effect

I took this shot of some rowers on the river (it was cold BTW). Nice shot, but wanted to fiddle a bit.



then I set the white point & black point on a curves layer but there was no other adjustment, and came up with this...


I think it has a real 1900's feel to it.

Interesting effect- suspect you have done the equivalent of increasing the exposure/contrast, but amazing how it cuts through the mist.
I actually like both shots.
