Trouble Changing Name of a Category

I want to rename a category title. When I go to ACCOUNT SETTINGS>STYLE>CATEGORIES in order to use the "rename" feature, I can not find the category title I want to change. I've noticed that there is no drop down box next to the category label - nor is the category listed under the rename function.

I can't seem to change the name of a category.

If the category is one of the stock ones that comes standard on your SmugMug account then you cannot change the name. If it is a category name that you created you should be able to change the name. If that's the case, please email our help desk and we'll take a closer look for you.

If the category you want to change is one of the stock ones, you'll need to create a brand new category with the desired name then move the galleries into that category. You can move a gallery into a new category by going into the Gallery Settings, then near the top you can change the parent category.

    I hope this helps!

The name of the category I want to rename is PORTFOLIO - I am not sure if it is a standard category that comes with my SMug Account or not. All I know is that I need help in just simply renaming the PORTFOLIO category to GALLERIES - and leave the sub-catgories and galleries the same.

Portfolio is a stock category that comes with your SmugMug site so you won't be able to change that, sorry. I see that you've already created a new category called Galleries which is step 1. Now go into each of the galleries in the Portfolio category and click Tools > Gallery Settings. Near the top of the Settings page, under Essentials, click the drop down menu next to Category and change that to Galleries.

You will need to do that for each gallery in the Portfolio category (the sub-categories should move over too). You can apply this gallery setting change to multiple galleries by clicking the Multiple Galleries button at the top of the settings page, then select the desired galleries from the drop-down menu.

Zac ...okay, I am following your advice above. Being a little slow on this stuff, what are the steps for getting the category GALLERIES to appear in the nav bar (and linking it properly). And ... I caution myself that once the current PORTFOLIO is gone from the nav bar, how do I find it to change over the current galleries to the new GALLERIES category ... or do I change everything over to the GALLERIES category "before" I make a switch over on the nav bar.

Again, I am slow on this stuff - don't make make many changes, so every time I try something new, I get lost.

It doesn't really matter, but might be easier to swap the galleries over to the "Galleries" category first before changing the nav bar.

Once you've done that, go into your Easy Customizer, click on Header, then click Nav Bar Builder. #3 on the selection should say Portfolio so change that to say Galleries, then change the URL to the one for the Galleries category.

Zac ... I really appreciate your help and patience. As you can tell agin by my questions that I am not up on this stuff.

I hope one last question, when I switch the galleries over to the GALLERIES category sort of behind the scenes first - where can I find them so that I can get the URL to past into the nav bar?
