Clone Stamp is not cooperating!

Need some help, please, editing in PS! I've followed instructions to the letter. I Alt click on the target spot, then move the mouse pointer to where I want to start painting (cloning the target), but it does not clone. I can see the target image in the brush circle, but nothing sticks to the area I want to cover. Opacity and flow are set to 100%. (Caps lock is not on -- read that one someplace.) I have created a "New layer" and tried it. I've tried sampling "All layers" etc. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Hmm...it could be a number of things. If you post a screen shot of your workspace when you are experiencing the problem, it will probably become clear.

    In the meantime--

--Check that the mode of the stamp tool is set to normal
--Make sure that both the source and destination layers are pixel layers, not adjustment layers (like curves, etc.).
--Make sure that the image, not the mask, is active.

    HTH.

What blend mode is the clone stamp set on? And what blend mode is the blank layer you're onto?
