Need an extra wide lens for crop on Canon
I'm looking to get a wide angle lens (probably zoom) for my Canon 550D which I use for video (I might use it for stills some times, but video will be the prime use).
The obvious choice is the ef-s 10-22, but price is an issue. IS would be nice, but that doesn't seem to available on this type of lens yet. It does not have to be amazingly sharp, as I shoot 720p most of the time. Wider aperture is always a bonus as I will be using it in churches sometimes.
Any suggestions?

Check out a brief test I did comparing the 11-16 on a crop sensor and a full-frame sensor:

Yeah, they did not actually upgrade the AF system to the new style of USM / HSM / SWM / SDM type autofocus, all they did was put a regular built-in AF motor. They call it quiet, and it may be slightly quieter than the oldschool Nikon "screwdriver" AF, but it's still not the same as Canon's USM or Nikon's SWM. (Or Sigma's HSM, which they have been using for years now too.)
If you don't plan on ever using the lens on an amateur Nikon DSLR, (lower than the D70-D7000 range) ...then you're fine with the older 11-16 model.

Unfortunately, Canon EF-S lenses are not usable on full-frame bodies, which is one thing that Stuart-M was interested in...
