Manfrotto 231B Column Stand with Sliding Arm as a camera stand ?

As the title suggests, anyone using this model as a camera stand ?

@ ~$200 it seems to be an affordable option....

Any other suggestions ?

In all honesty, this makes me nervous. Reminds me of a light stand, and I hear horror stories on those all the time. I can't imagine hanging a camera on it, shiver. Personally I would opt for a used meduim/ higher end tripod for studio, for around that price. I think anonymouscuban had one for sale some time back. FWIW

Well, the least expensive camera stand I have been able to find is the Delta 1 CS6 JR @ $320.

It is twice the weight of the Manfrotto (36# vs 17#) with a smaller footprint (32" vs 39.4") but it does have an adjustable 22" crossarm.

The Manfrotto arm is only 7" but I have the means to extend it

And the collapsible legs might come in handy on occasion but could also be a weak point...

To expand on my original post, I am becoming more and more frustrated with dodging my tripod legs and adjusting them for height, hence the "need" for a dedicated camera stand.

Hey Don, I was thinking about this last night. Throw a sandbag on the legs, it would still allow you to move it, but would give the base more stability.

I "could" make the Manfrotto work but decided to order the Delta

It should be ready to use out of the box.

We shall see in 2 - 6 days.

Let us know how well it works. You may be setting a trend here. The Delta, by first blush, does look more substantial than the Manfrotto. Thicker riser, thicker horizontal legs.
