nice shots. I would use curves to bring a litttle more contrast. get the blacks black and the whites white.

on a cloudy, foggy day like that, there are no whites... just shades of gray... ;)

Actually.... I ordered a 10x20 metallic print, with the softening layer and linen look.... with a frame. Cost a cool $135 but I had to see it in a professional frame and wanted to know how the framing looks that SM uses. It looks great.

Believe it or not, the print came out darker and more contrasty than it shows on screen here.... under lighting with some ambient daylight it lightens up the tree and rock plynth just enough but as contrasty as you suggested... in the evening with only the overhead lights the scene darkens... almost like a night/day dependant photo... the effect is kind of cool. I am glad I didn't add any more contrast as you suggested prior to ordering the thing.

I have it on display at a local starbucks that gets a lot of foot traffice. The staff always report what folks say about different photo's, nobody ever calls or buys, but it's a decent and easy litmus test to see what the general public feels about any one shot.

I think with tihs more professional looking frame and mat job for this photo it will get higher accolades than other better shots I have with crappy craft store frames.

    Cheers

Maybe they adjusted the levels to look best for the printing options you selected.

I am assuming as much kdog. I figured asking for the linen look and soft protection layer may have darkened the image... but it does look nice - more of a work of art than anything I have had printed in standard glossy or lustre... the matting is fine - nothing really special about a black mat with white inside... the frame is quite nice... not the most perfect of all craftsmanship, but nice for what I paid... the solidness of it is really nice and it doesn't weigh as much as I would have expected it to. they professionally sealed the back with black paper and put a nice taught hang wire on it. All in all, I feel I got the value I paid for.

Next time i'll be aware of the print darkening issue for what I add to it. Will probably order the print alone with the features I want to ensure that I know the way it will look when ordered with frame... it's not like I can easily swap out the shot without ruining the work they did and make it not look like crap.

    Cheers
