Mother/Baby moment

I had the opportunity to photograph a coworker today with her little one. I fell in love with this image. Please critique on composition, lighting, edit, and anything and everything else. Love to know everyone's thoughts and feelings. Does this picture portray a special bond between the mom and the baby? Enjoy.

    This shot really shows off the beautiful matching red hair and portrays a Christmas feel.

    Some options that I would find interesting:

    I wonder what the image would look like with softer highlights?

    To me, the red Christmas decorations are just at risk of competing with the subjects ... I'd be interested to see what might be done to reduce their "mass" by blurring or colour fading (chiaroscuro - like in classical paintings).
