The Point Loma Formation is a sedimentary geological formation in Southern California. The strata date back to the Late Cretaceous.
Located on Point Loma and easily accessible by car, then foot (stairs), if you ever visit. There are Tide Pools also!

Hi Eric, very interesting shots, looks like there is quite a large tidal range.

    Cheers, Richard.

Fascinating. Sunset and twilight would bring out some rich colors I'd think.
    Anybody can do it.

Interesting terrain....very well captured. Good work, Eric.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Howdy Richard - you're right, I was surprised how high the water had pooled - thanks.

You are also right Walter, the mid-day light wasn't optimum - however, this area is open only certain hours, not including sunset - bummer!

For some reason, I'm particularly grabbed by the second shot, maybe because it looks a bit unreal. In a good sense. Nice work on all of them.

Last time I was out that way, there was a tower and TV camera. Which makes it a long time ago :-)

That part of the coast is really beautiful. Love the geology.

Thanks for the feedback Don... yes, the unusual erosion patterns due to the layering are eye-catching - my pic doesn't really capture them as interesting as they looked in person.

Well, if it's been that long, slide on down and have a visit!
Not much has changed on Point Loma - still a bunch of mysterious towers and equipment associated with the military. And you're right - Geology Rocks! (sorry, couldn't resist)

Really interesting hunk of coastline there, Eric. Nice compositions and you did great considering the harsh mid-day light. thumb.gif
