Here are a few of my favorite wedding shots for 2012 using only the available light. The first was just a photographers pure dream, with the smallest window in the church allowig direct sunlight directly on the bride and groom; for what was otherwise a dark church with little available light.
The second was using the light directly from a spotlight above the cake. The story behind this cake, it cost just £120 from M&S - shows what you can do on a budget.
The third was direct sunlight available from the windows to the right.

Also, when photographing wedding cakes with spotlights shining on them, I prefer to shoot from an angle that only partially lights the cake, to reduce the severity of that highlight and give it a little more moody look.
